Considering the slug is called ‘Former Demon King’, we can assume that this wasn’t its original form.

Having read this novel since the very first chapter, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it wasn’t a demon king but a demon queen, and that Tanaka will turn her back to her original form and add another girl to his team.

But anyway, Tanaka rescuing Esther again will probably be the start of her developing a romantic interest again in him.
