In reply to Wtrmute. They're likely called that because the hammer tail is reminiscent of the Meteor Hammer, and they likely are said to "hit with the power of a meteor"; I'm guessing rather than a glyptodont they're more like from anklyosauridae.

They’re called Meteor Turtles, but their description fits Glyptodontids better, particularly regarding the maces on their tails.

Perhaps they’re called Turtles because the humans of that world have never seen armadillos.
